Bolin, Asami, and Iroh invade the airfield, where they are captured by Hiroshi Sato's Equalists and thence rescued by Naga. While Asami and Bolin overcome Hiroshi and his mecha-tanks, Iroh destroys the Equalist bombers sent against Bumi's United Forces fleet; whereas Korra and Mako confront Amon at an Equalist rally, intending to expose him as a bender. Amon then reveals that he has captured Tenzin and his family, whom Korra and Mako then free. Amon overpowers Mako and Korra, and removes her bending powers; but is overcome when Korra achieves air bending after long failure, and his escape unmasks him publicly as a waterbender named Noatak. He flees Republic City and takes Tarrlok. Tarrlok uses an Equalist lightning glove to detonate their motor boat in a small Mushroom Cloud explosion killing him and Noatak. At the South Pole, Katara is unable to heal Korra's severance from water, earth, and fire. As Korra sits weeping at a cliff's edge, Aang and other Avatars appear to her, and Aang restores her connection, explaining that her despondency allowed her to overcome the difficulties encountered earlier. After the lovestruck Korra and Mako admit their strong, mutual romantic feelings and affections for each other and passionately kiss, Korra enters the Avatar State to restore Lin Beifong's bending abilities.
